President Yaradua recently removed all doubt about the completion of his study on how to be president, with the retirement of the service chiefs.
Before this latest action, he had sent the former head of the EFCC, who had indirectly taken on him through his Justice Minister on a wild goose chase to NIPSS in Kuru only to due process him to his appropriate level in the police force.
His most recent action no doubt, marks the end of the government rather quarrelsome honey moon with the militants and their criminal variants in the Niger Delta region, whose conduct in recent past has become worrisome.
The government plea for time to evaluate past performance and chart a new course in the region had been misrepresented by these elements as weakness. Even the appointment of a service chief from the Ijaw area of the region which many had thought would lead to semblance of quiet since he would be able to communicate with the youths in their native language did very little to alter the flow of events in the region.
Now that he has decided to confront their challenges headlong, Nigerians strongly wish that the new service chiefs would be able to come up with approach that would be able to return peace in the region particularly, Rivers and Bayelsa. Some international construction firms working on some developmental projects in both states in the region have since moved out citing insecurity.
I would always be the first to admit to negligence of government responsibilities in some of the states but that can not serve as a plank for youths whose parents has failed woefully in their parental duty to give direction and focus to them, to make living hell for others.
